Do I need a home inspection?
While a home inspection isn't always required to buy a house - the vast majority of lenders want to have an appraisal done before they will approve a home loan, in order to determine how much the house is worth.
A home inspection also prevents you from buying a home that has below-the-surface issues that can cost you an arm and a leg in the near future post-purchase. Most home inspectors focus on the major defects that will cost the buyer a lot of money above the purchase price to repair - it's rare that cosmetic issues are reports. So, really, a home inspection is in your best interest to see the problems that aren't necessarily visible, and is essential to making an informed decision when buying a home.
